Verdin Clock & Bell Company

Cincinnati is the proud home of
Verdin Bells & Clocks, Since 1842.

Since 1842! 184 Years Old Cincinnati Company! This is incredible. When Verdin Clock & Bells began:

  • There were 26 States in the United States
  • The Cincinnati Union Terminal was built 90 years later
  • Trains had bells on them instead of horns
  • First factory on the tracks along the Ohio River, Eastern Ave.
  • MLB started 34 years later
  • The population of the USA was 17,069,453
  • John Tyler, the 10th President of the United States, was the President

Tim Verdin of Verdin and Rick Bell of Cincinnati Watch Company

Since 1842, The Verdin Bells & Clocks Company has manufactured clocks and bells in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Every Cincinnati Neighborhood Has a Verdin Clock

Like any city, Cincinnati is made up of municipalities, towns, and neighborhoods within the city, and almost every neighborhood in Cincinnati has a Verdin Clock at its center.

  • Walnut Hills,
  • Madison,
  • Oakley,
  • Hyde Park,
  • Evanston,
  • Historic
  • East End,
  • Oakley,
  • Delhi,
  • Madisonville..

Everytime I would see a Verdin clock it would capture my eye and attention; bbacklit bright beautiful faces of time. Easy to read time, a force of nature in the space they comprise, stoic, standing, present, alive.

My discovery of Verdin came from admiring the municipal clocks all over Cincinnati. While admiring the clock's face up close, squinting to see on the clock dial reads, "The Verdin Clock Co". I Googled Verdin to find that, "Oh, that warehouse literally down the street from me, is the Verdin Clock Co.!"

Whenever I think of the dentist my Mother took us to as children, I think of the clock outside their office in Hyde Park, this one I do not know if it is a Verdin. Likely, but I do not see it signed on the dial.

Verdin decorative clocks are a meaningful contribution to any organization, community, or business. Town clocks, for one, are a must-have if it is to be considered an independent town, IMHO.

Verdin Clocks in Cincinnati Neighborhoods

Pendleton Clock

It amazes me that there is a town called Pendleton nestled between Over The Rhine and Mt. Adams, but Pendleton holds it down with the Pendleton art gallery and restaurants on 13th St.

Evanston

An old Google Maps photo of this clock had the Roman Numeral version. Somewhere along the line, the design was updated to this numeric version.

Verdin sells and installs clocks around the World. In fact, I was traveling on the West Coast, waiting for a train in a small town North of San Francisco, when I came across, you guessed it, a Verdin town clock!

Castellini Produce

Kudos, Castellini group, your clock along the Ohio River, where your business began and operated for generations, is a masterful way to mark your integral part of Cincinnati, Ohio, history. Here from the beginning and contributing, literally bringing the food and resources to the City of Cincinnati, Castellini has a permanent landmark pinpointing where their family business was located along the Ohio River.

A clock worth visiting. Visiting the Castellini clock places you between the Roebling Bridge, the J. Brady Music Center, the Black Music Hall of Fame, the rose garden, and swings looking out along the Ohio River.

Verdin's Workshop on Eastern Ave (Riverside Dr.)

Inside the shop on Eastern Ave, one can see the bells and clocks the craftsman at Verdin are working on; I always peek inside when the door is open or look through the windows to catch a glimpse of a tall clock, or whismical charachter. It's a Willy Wonka paradise as far as we're concerned. We are grateful to publish the photos and videos of Verdin Clock and Bells, Since 1842 tour and their restoration of the Union Terminal Clock finished and ready to ship.

The Verdin Factory Tour During the Restoration of the Union Terminal Clock

Tim Verdin himself saw the above blog post and reached out to us and invited us to tour their factory WHILE THE UNION TERMINAL CLOCK WAS BEING RESTORED at Verdin!

Verdin Restored The Union Terminal Clock

When the Union Terminal was restored in 2018, it was Verdin Clock & Bells who removed, restored, and replaced the Union Terminal Clock dial, hands, and movement from it's room high on the Union Terminal front East face.

Craftsfolk. People who do not make mistakes. Have a gently strong hand. Zenlike Calm in parts.
